Lisa, the Apron Queen. Wow…I almost forgot about VTT today. But just in time, I thought to share this old container I bought at a local thrift shop. It is black tin with gilt decoration.
It is stencilled with gilt roses on the black ground.
It seems to be a homemade example of toleware
I bought it to go along with this gilt stencilled black wood mirror in the guest bathroom. Nearby is a black wrought iron candelabra that I got eons ago with S&H stamps. Black items help to anchor the décor.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you will stop by again soon. To see more vintage things, please visit

The container is a great find Carrie. I love using black frames too. Glad you remembered VTT
S & H Green stamps. I remember them well. We got a lot of stuff with them eons ago. Blue Chip stamps were big where we lived too. I did a lot of licking and pasting in those days. Black frames are really "in" now. Black ones and white ones.
Wonder what that container is for? I have a similar one, and it is tallish so I think it should be for umbrellas, but it has a lid, so that is out. I like your black one.. nice find!
I had one years ago...I thought it was a bathroom trashcan...so that's where it went!!!
love it :)

Toleware seems to be coming into its own as a collectible. My mom had serving trays and a similar trashcan, as well as furniture. I really like the black and gold, I think it looks great in your bathroom.
That is just gorgeous! I wold love to see your bathroom with it all in it! Sounds lovely!
Eileen, I think it is a small trash can. I used it as a container for dried flowers or plants.
I really like that container. It's very pretty and I would probably use it for a bathroom trash can too. But a nice house plant might look great in it also.
THat is a cute container, it would be cute in the kitchen to hold cooking spoons, etc. Great find with this one.
I love the tole container. What a great find! I don't know what s&h stamps are, but I remember blue chip stamps. I used to love to help my mom or dad lick the stamp and fill up the books. We got some great stuff that way.
Love your Toleware. I collect Ransburg myself. Thanks for sharing.
The gold on black Toleware is very
pretty a great find. I would enjoy
it in my home, I like black accent
pieces like the frames also!
