Blue Monday is sponsored by our gracious Sally at
Smiling Sally. My post today focusses on a set of small hardcover volumes of Shakespeare plays and poetry. They are presented in a 4.5" high x 3.5’ wide bookcase. The blue and white paper-covered bookshelf holds five little volumes upright and one tucked underneath.

The five plays are in the bookshelf while the Poems are slipcased underneath

The slipcase and the 3.25" tall books are all decorated with the same motif of a woman holding a horn of plenty and accompanied by a cherub.

This view shows that the titles are on the front covers and on the spine, and that the edges are gilt.

The plays include two comedies, A Midsummer-Night’s Dream, and The Taming of the Shrew, and three tragedies, Hamlet, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet.

The title pages indicate that these are "Midget" Classics published by Burgess & Bowes, Ltd, London, England. Each book has a Glossary, and all except Hamlet also include a selection of Sonnets. These little volumes are lovely gift volumes and provide a convenient way to carry the text of the plays for reading at one's leisure.

Thank you for coming by today, and do leave a comment. Enjoy more Blue Monday posts at Sally’s blog,
