When I Say, "I Am A Christian"

When I say, "I am a Christian,"

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not shouting, "I've been saved!"
I'm whispering, "I get lost! That's why I chose this way"

When I say, "I am a Christian," I don't speak with human pride
I'm confessing that I stumble-needing God to be my guide

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak and pray for strength to carry on

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not bragging of success
I'm admitting that I've failed and cannot ever pay the debt

When I say, "I am a Christian," I don't think I know it all
I submit to my confusion asking humbly to be taught

When I say, "I am a Christian," I'm not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible but God believes I'm worth it

When I say, "I am a Christian," I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache which is why I seek His name

When I say, "I am a Christian," I do not wish to judge
I have no authority--I only know I'm loved

No truer words have ever been spoken. A big AMEN.

Humility will win a lot more people to Christ than arrogance. This is a good illustration of that. Thank you for sharing this on Spiritual Sundays.

Each one of the lines in the poem are incredible reminders of how each one of us who claim to be Christians should live, a wonderful post!

A blessed Sonday to you!

How true! Sounds like a confession to me--a good confession. Not bragging, just stating the truth in an humble manner. You are saying what needs to be said about being a Christian.

I agree with Charlotte...
this is so good. I'm going to share this with my teens in my youth group...i think they'll relate to this.
We talked tonight about "laziness" in our christian walk and how to take steps each day to get out of our laziness and learn more about Christ and sharing him in our world each day...this is a great poem to start that dialogue.
Thanks so much for sharing Carol's words with us in the blogworld : )

Blessings Carrie...What copyright problems Carol has gone through just to claim her work on the internet and distinguish it from "author unknown" or Angelou's poem.
The words are so true and speak what we should be as a Christian!
I'm so glad I'm loved & by His love I have authority in His Name to trample on snakes and scorpions!

Thanks for sharing Carol's poem & linking to her site! God bless & I pray you enjoyed a Spiritual Sunday. Have a good week!
