WordFilled Wednesday – Isaiah 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 KJV

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 NIV

For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NIV

It is amazing to consider that God would make a sacrifice for us. We do not even know what He gave up to give us the opportunity to live with Him eternally. However, the Scriptures assure us that when He comes again He will happily receive us and take us then to heaven!

WordFilled Wednesday – The Names of Our Savior

graphic from jesuschristis.com

The above poster reminds us of the many names given in Scripture for our Savior Jesus Christ. Each name denotes one aspect of the fullness we can find in Him.
Here are some of the Biblical references:

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:29 NIV

Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:35 NIV

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 NKJV

During this Easter time the image of the Good Shepherd is a joyful promise.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.
John 10:11 NKJV

Let’s praise God for His marvelous Gift!

that we, having died to sins,
might live for righteousness—
by whose stripes you were healed”

WordFilled Wednesday – Genesis 1:21

Humpback Whales in Singing Position - Photo, National Geographic

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth,
which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind,
and every winged fowl after his kind:
and God saw that it was good
Genesis 1:21 KJV

So God created the great creatures of the sea
and every living and moving thing with which the water teems,
according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.
And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:21 NIV

The language of the first chapter of Genesis is so majestic as it tells of the creation of the earth and all that lives on it. Every time we see beauty about us, we can thing of the greatness of the Creator.

He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Also He has put eternity in their hearts,
except that no one can find out the work
that God does from beginning to end.

Word-Filled Wednesday & Outdoor Wednesday – Daylilies

Today’s post is for both Word-Filled Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday.

Some months ago I shared this photo and text on WFW. Now, with spring all around I thought I’d share it again.

Why take ye thought for raiment?
Consider the lilies of the field how they grow;
they toil notneither do they spin.
Matthew 6:28

The daylily is a fascinating plant because each bloom lasts for just one day. Isn't it great that God provided such beauty for our enjoyment!

Here are some other views of the daylilies in the garden last summer:

I love perennials since you plant them once, and they come back each year. It's great to look forward to seeing them blossom during their season.

Word-Filled Wednesday - Psalms 103:12

"As far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed
our transgressions from us."
Psalms 103:12

This is an extraordinary metaphor....and, it is in no way a hyperbole. God means what He says. So we can be confident that when we confess our sins and turn away from practicing them, He will remove those sins from us.

"The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;
He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."
Psalms 103:8-12 NIV

Word-Filled Wednesday – Proverbs 31:21

The horse is prepared against the day of battle:
but safety is of the LORD.
Prov. 31:21

Our only hope for strength, for safety, for truth and grace is our God.

Word-Filled Wednesday Jeremiah 13:23

Clipart Doverpublications.com

Can the Ethiopian change his skin
or the leopard its spots?
Neither can you do good
who are accustomed to doing evil.
Jeremiah 13:23

Only when Jesus Christ as the center of our lives are we able to do anything that is truly good.

Word-Filled Wednesday Genesis 11:8,9

Clipart Doverpublications.com

“So the LORD scattered them
from there over all the earth,
and they stopped building the city.
That is why it was called Babel
—because there the LORD confused
the language of the whole world.
From there the LORD scattered them
over the face of the whole earth."
Gen. 11:8, 9

The illustration is from the Bedford Book of Hours done between 1423-1430 AD. It interprets the building of the Tower of Babel on a plain in Shinar or Babylonia.

The multiplication of languages was used by God to keep humans from following through with their unholy goal of making a way to heaven by their own means. ["Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens…]

Christ is the only solution to our human dilemmas and the only Way to fulfill our full potential

Word-Filled Wednesday – Isaiah 1:18

Come now, and let us reason together,
saith the LORD:
though your sins be as scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson,
they shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:18 KJV

When we look on all the white stuff around us, we can contemplate God’s sure promise that he will cleanse us from our sins. This is possible when we look on pure white snow when it first comes down, or the grey stuff when it has been soiled with traffic. God's grace is powerful in all situations.

WordFilled Wednesday – Exodus 20:16

"You shall not bear false witness
against your neighbor."
Exodus 20:16 NKJV

The use of the internet as sounding board for thousands and thousands means that a lot of information is shared every hour. At the same time, however, the computer is used to spread rumor, slander and other negative things about others.

Each person needs to consider that the command to desist from bearing false witness includes doing so in an online format as much as directly in person.

We need to diligently research the facts behind any allegation before we pass it on. In that way, we avoid going against God’s will for His followers.

Word-Filled Wednesday – Matthew 7:16

clipart Dover.com

Ye shall know them by their fruits.
Do men gather grapes of thorns,
or figs of thistles?
Matthew 7:16

Jesus declared that one can know a person’s character by what he or she does. Our actions reveal what we truly are.

WordFilled Wednesday - 1Timothy 2:1-2

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers,

intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—

for kings and all those in authority,

that we may live peaceful and quiet lives

in all godliness and holiness."

1Tim. 2:1-2

In reading posts for Word-filled Wednesday I just came across a new blog. It is titled A Damsel No Longer in Distress and is by Sandy. Her current post gives a fine perspective on our election yesterday. The Bible texts quoted, Romans 13:1, Daniel 2:20-22, Psalms 9:19-20 all point to God’s ultimate control of not only our spiritual needs, but our temporal concerns as well. The Bible texts quoted and her discussion call us to prayer, as does the passage from 1Timothy..

Word-Filled Wednesday – Hebrews 11:32-34

Sponsored by Amydeanne at The 160-Acre Woods, the "purpose of Word-filled Wednesday is to share God’s word through photo’s & a verse.

And what more shall I say?
I do not have time to tell about Gideon,
Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David,
Samuel and the prophets,
who through faith conquered kingdoms,
administered justice, and gained what was promised;
who shut the mouths of lions,
quenched the fury of the flames,
and escaped the edge of the sword;
whose weakness was turned to strength;
and who became powerful in battle
and routed foreign armies.
Hebrews 11:32-34

In Hebrews 11 the apostle Paul presents a long line of heroes of the faith – they all considered God’s word substantial enough to act upon it. Therefore, they are our examples to follow.
