Today’s Thrifty Treasures – Wedgwood Charger

On Friday I went to drop off a few items at the consignment shop, then went around the large store looking for bargains. An item I had picked up many times but put down, was now on final sale for $4.38. It is a handpainted wooden charger from Wedgwood’s "Joie de Vivre" Collection.

It is white painted in green and measures 13" diameter. The illustration of an urn surrounded with country houses, birds, leafy fronds, a rooster and trees, has a classical but fresh and whimsical treatment.
The Wedgwood "Joie de Vivre"series comes in green, blue, black and deep pink, with coordinating porcelain plates. The porcelain salad plates are decorated with a rooster or an urn.

Here is a photo from Ebay of the salad plate with the rooster in green:

For now, I’ll be using it for serving with a clear plate to let the painting show through.

I am glad you stopped by and hope you will visit again soon. Your comment is welcome.

Ohh...that's pretty! I've never seen THAT pattern. I love how you've used it with a clear, glass plate so all the beauty can still shine through. ;)

Oh I really like this. Even better because you had kept your eye on it and it finally came down in price. I love it when that happens.
Keeping a clear plate on top is a great idea. Keeps the beauty of it shining through!
Great post!

I've never seen that pattern for a charger. You've chosen the perfect use for a lonely plate. The glass plate makes it so useful. Sally
