I am the rose of Sharon,
and the lily of the valleys.
Song of Solomon 2:1
Song of Solomon 2:1
Note Matthew Henry’s Commentary on Jesus Christ as the Rose of Sharon:
"Christ is the rose of Sharon, where probably the best roses grew and in most plenty, the rose of the field (so some), denoting that the gospel salvation is a common salvation; it lies open to all; whoever will may come and gather the rose-buds of privileges and comforts that grow in the covenant of grace. He is not a rose locked up in a garden, but all may come and receive benefit by him and comfort in him."
--Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible, Vol. III
As we contemplate and enjoy the beautiful flower, we can also consider Christ’s beauty and His eternal love for each of us.

lovely! And very interesting...I never thought of it that way. Something to ponder today. Thanks for sharing :o)
I love this, bless you.
This always makes me think of my mother. She loves to see the lily-of-the-valley because it means that spring is here and summer not far. She doesn't like to see the rose-of-sharon because it means that the end of summmer is near.
beautiful verses. And, you have inspired me to plant a rose-of-sharon bush. I love them.
I will never look at a rose the same way~ such beautiful thoughts.
Wonderful job! I have always loved this verse. Oh, yes He is the Rose of Sharon.
I learned something new today! I did not know that the flower you were showing today was a Rose of Sharon. I always thought this verse was referring to just the garden variety Rose. Love it!
Very interesting thoughts and comparisons. Truly Jesus is beautiful in all ways. Love the picture.
Beautiful Rose of Sharon. I remember singing a song about Jesus being the Rose of Sharon...
Interesting commentary too.
Have a great day!
What a beautiful bloom! But not nearly as beautiful as our God is to us :) Thanks for sharing today!
Beautiful!
I'm so grateful that our Lord and Savior offers His salvation to all who come in repentance and faith.
What an awesome Savior we truly have! And how beautiful He is!
Thank you for sharing this today!
Sunny
interesting post! I didn't know about the rose of Sharon
Very interesting! Pretty photo and great verse!
Thanks for sharing! I was really blessed by the commentary explanation of the Rose of Sharon and its correlation to Christ!
I love these flowers...we had one at the house I grew up in.
Recently, a friend gave me a vile with Rose of Sharon oil...yummy smell.
He is OUR SWEETEST, MOST FRAGRANT ROSE, indeed!
Beautiful Scripture and verse. Enjoyed the commentary, too!
