This poem expresses just how I am feeling as I prepare for out of state and in-state relatives for my mother’s 90th birthday next weekend, September 19-22.
Slow me down, Lord! Ease the pounding of my heart By the quieting of my mind. Steady my harried pace With a vision of the eternal reach of time. Give me, Amidst the confusions of my day, The calmness of the everlasting hills. Break the tensions of my nerves With the soothing music of the singing streams That live in my memory.
Help me to know The magical power of sleep. Teach me the art Of taking minute vacations of slowing down to look at a flower; to chat with an old friend or make a new one; to pat a stray dog; to watch a spider build a web; to smile at a child; or to read a few lines from a good book.
Remind me each day That the race is not always to the swift; Thaer there is more to life than increasing its speed. Let me look upward Into the branches of the towering oak And know that it grew great and strong Because it grew slowly and well.
Slow me down, Lord, And inspire me to send my roots deep Into the soil of life’s enduring values That I my grow toward the stars Of my greater destiny. -- Wilfred A. Peterson

Welcome to Oak Rise Cottage, the Home of an Incurable Collector!
In this blog I will be sharing my ventures into the worlds of a collector with multiple enthusiasms. At Oak Rise Cottage there are collections such as items with pineapple motif, blue and white dishes and fabrics, tablesetting components, books in both regular and miniature editions, fruit motif items, Christmas holiday accessories, and so on...The pineapple evokes a hostess' love of sharing house and home with family and friends. Guests to Oak Rise Cottage share the collector's bounty -- based on my view that the house should express the personality and interests of the owner.

"Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful; for beauty is God’s handwriting." This quote is from a postcard I keep on the side of my refrigerator. It shows a white bird soaring against a blue sky.
