Friday Show and Tell – Vintage Embroidered Pillow

Show and Tell
Show and tell Friday is hosted by Kelli at There is No Place Like Home. Do check on the entries of other participants of this interesting feature.

Having missed a few Fridays I am glad to participate this week. Today’s item is a vintage pillow I purchased at an estate sale several years ago. The pillow is a soft pink with a white lace ruffle.

The front is embroidered and I wonder what sort of handwork this is. Does anyone know what this needlework technique is called? The fabric is canvaslike with an open weave. The thread seems to be wool. Is it crewel embroidery?

Thanks for looking at my embroidered pillow. To visit other Show and Tell posts, please go to Kelli’s. I am glad you come by today. Please leave a comment, and do come again soon.

Wow Carrie! What an amazing find, it's very dainty and pretty, I will have to check back to see if anyone knows what kind of needle work it is :).

Have a wonderful Friday!

J'aime beaucoup votre blog. Il a l'air vraiment adorable ! Je crois bien que nous avons les mêmes goûts, pour tout ce qui est ancien, et charmant, et pour le jardin aussi. I don't speak verry well in english, but you blog look so great. It's so nice. I love all of this: vintage, garden, hosta, ... Just a little "hello" from Belgium (Europe).

I don't know what it's called, but it sure is beautiful. I enjoyed seeing it.

Some of it is crewel and some of it looks a little like candlewicking. Maybe someone else has a better answer.
Thanks for sharing,

It looks like crewel to me--but I'm not an expert.
Whatever it may be, it is lovely handwork--such a nice find and pretty accessory to your home.
Blessings to You!

Hello Cookie Sunshine,
Thanks so much for writing. Not really. Love Bears All Things' comment suggested crewel and candlewicking. I did some research on candlewicking, but am still not sure about the technique and appearance of candlewicking. Maybe I should inquire on some blogs that deal with embroidery.
Again thanks for your inquiry,
Carrie
