Outdoor Wednesday – New Plant Bed

For some time now I have wanted a new plant bed just under my bedroom and bath windows so I could look out at something pretty close up. On Monday June 15 my wish came into fruition as the ground was cleared of grass and two plants were put in. They are the start of what I’m planning as a blue and white garden.
The first two plants are Floribunda Rose "Iceberg" from Star Roses. You can spot them in back of the landscaper’s truck.
At the nursery, I saw the stunning white roses and drew the landscaper’s attention. He liked them as well and decided to buy one for his mother and another for his aunt.
I saw a few truly blue flowers last Friday when I went with my landscaper to a very large nursery. I hope they will still be there when I return to pick out a few for the new garden.
For winter interest, I want to include some blue-hued evergreens.

Well, anyone who has visited my blog over the past year must have noticed all the posts I’ve done on blue and white dishes, linens, etc. Now it is even spilling over into the back yard!

I'm sure the following three books will be helpful as I undertake this new garden project. The Color Garden: White, The Color Garden: Blue and Making a White Garden.
The Color Garden: White and The Color Garden: Blue are authored and photographed by Elvin McDonald are part of a series of books on "single color plantings for dramatic landscapes."
Each book comes with a relevant seed packet from White Swan Ltd. of Beaverton, Oregon.
Making a White Garden by Joan Clifton gives a through treatment of garden design with white.
The frontispiece shows the garden at Chenies Manor in Buckinghamshire, England.:

I trust that the rest of this week and the weekend will go well for you. Do stop by again soon.

It was be nice to have beautiful flowers to gaze upon from your bedroom. Here in California it is hard to find blue flowers. Hubby likes using blue flowers to put at the bottom of his dolphin topiary, but has a hard time finding blue flowers that spread. So he just uses allysum now. Thanks for visiting my blog & leaving me a comment.

This is going to be an amazing garden. I've often thought about doing this. I've heard a white garden is gorgeous, at night, as well as during daytime. Those roses are beautiful!

Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

My 16 year old son is embarking on a career of making people's plant dreams come true. We have been out removing sod, planting and trimming for the last couple of weeks at various clients' homes.

I am glad that you took the time to go to the Nursery with your landscaper. We would love it if Mikey's clients would do that. So far they have either purchased what they wanted put in or sent him out to just get what he thought was best. That was very fun, I must say, but you always wonder if that is what they would have chosen.

Anyway...your flower bed is off to a wonderful start!!!

I love white and blue gardens! I find them very peaceful. I have white iceberg roses lining my back fence and my front wall. They are my base and I accent with the blue.

It looks like your garden is off to a good start, with that beautiful white rose. I would say that you definitely know what you want, by all the books you have researched. Good luck. I can't wait to see the finished garden.
Thanks for sharing!

Hello! I bet your garden is going to look pretty! I have Iceberg roses in my garden and love them. I also planted some flowers called Plumbago that are blue. They are doing great in the area that I planted them. I'm looking forward to much bigger shrubs hopefully next year.
I hope you have a lovely day.
Blessings,
Sandra
